The Voice of the People
The People Have Spoken
So I have made a Vox Pop or the "Voice of the People" in Adobe Premiere. I went around to strangers and asked them the question "If there was one place to spend the rest of your life where would it be? "
I took the hesitation of their answers and used them as an opening because I felt that would draw in the viewers attention. It was interesting that some responses were similar in general location while others were out of the ordinary, but relatable.

Multimedia Critque
I found this multimedia to be well produced. The words/text are in sync with the music in
the back ground. The music in the
beginning is very captivating and draws in the audience as it shows the
cityscape. There are a wide range of
images and video clips. The effects that
are used were old film grain, slowing down and speeding up the clip. The typography was good. My favorite part of the video was in the beginning
where the clip of the flowers was edited to open up to the sound of a person
breathing. The multimedia also changes
the mood with the music that they use when a different clip comes up.

Event Coverage
CSL pep rally ignites students
Winthrop students and faculty piled into Richardson ballroom
yesterday for the pep rally hosted by the Council of Student Leaders. The pep rally was intended to get the student
body excited about the upcoming Winthrop Coastal rivalry game on Jan. 30.
The festive atmosphere of the event was filled with music,
cheers from the Winthrop Eaglettes and cheer squad and rousing speeches. The vibrant energy was contagious. Soon the entire room was in high
spirits. “I have never been to a
Winthrop game,” said sophomore Claire Wyse, “but I may have to go to this one
tomorrow.”
Men’s basketball head coach, Pat Kelsey, and players like
Reggie King began to move the crowd with buzzing excitement.
King spoke of the hard work that the team has done this
season and that he looks forward to continuing the pattern during the Coastal
game. “My pep talk turned into a pep
rally,” King stated once he realized that he had captured the attention of the
room.
Activities like “Minute to Win It” where contestants were to
complete the lyrics of a song once the track stopped and wing-eating contests
sparked interaction between players and crowd members.
Midway through the event the mood became somber and serious. “Winthrop has rich basketball traditions and
history, and we want to make sure that everyone is aware of it,” Michelle
Slaughter said.
Slaughter explained the tradition of students holding their
hands palm side up during free throws as a tribute to De’Andre Adams, a former
Winthrop basketball player, who was involved in a fatal car crash in 2007.
Students not only left the pep rally with good spirits and
knowledge, but a new relationship as well.
On a high ending not from head coach Pat Kelsey he informed the crowd
his door is open and “you have a personal relationship with the head coach;
you’re important to me and the team.”

Practice Story
Hospital Apologizes Death of Child
A 7-year-old girl died Saturday after having surgery at Mercy Hospital due to
receiving the wrong medication.
After a tonsillectomy Tania Abbondanzia was given a half-milligram of
hydromorphone a stronger pain reliever than her prescribed morphine sulphate.
The pediatric nurse that administered the wrong medication mistakenly gave the
hydromorphone to Abbondanzia due to the drugs being beside each other.
Police are treating the death as accidental after discovering the cause of death, and
the nurse has been suspended pending completion of the investigation.
Abbondanzia was given the drug at 2:30 p.m. Friday and soon developed severe
respiratory problems and began to seizure
She was immediately transferred from the medical facility’s pediatrics ward to the
intensive care ward. Abbondanzia remained in a coma until Saturday morning
when doctors pronounced her brain dead. She was then taken off of the respirator
and died minutes later at 9:40 a.m.
Dr. Irwin Greenhouse, hospital administrator, stated in a press release that, “Our
sympathy goes out to the family, and we will stay close to them to provide support.”
The parents of the girl were unavailable for comment.
What Ado About Info
Fun Statistics
Infographics simply put are visual representations of information. They are usually presented in a way that is aesthetically pleasing and easy for the viewer to understand.
I have found a few online that I found interesting that I am going to share:
I have two main web browsers that I use, so seeing how they ranked compared to the most popular available browsers sparked my interest. This infographic is not bad; it gets the data across in a easy visual. Although it is not very creative. The text is standard and it provides the logos of the browsers. Have more colors could have made it better.
This infograph displays the history of Apple. There are more images of the corporation and it's products than there are words, but it is still able to get the information across. This infographic is good because the images are engaging, and it is simple to understand. A negative about this is that the images seem cluttered and can be a little distracting.
On Monday in class I will be doing a practice infographic that will be comparing different cell phone companies. I plan on using graphics of people and cell phones to illustrate the information that I am going to be using.
